Golden milk is a traditional Indian drink that has its roots in Ayurveda. It is a healthy drink prepared by boiling milk with turmeric, a pinch of pepper, and cinnamon. If you wish you can add jaggery, honey, or maple syrup. It has potent anti-inflammatory benefits and it’s great for autoimmune conditions.
Benefits of drinking golden milk
- The key ingredient in this recipe (turmeric) has antioxidant properties. Since it is loaded with antioxidants which help protect the cell from damage, fight off disease and infection, and contribute to your overall health
It appears that turmeric — more specifically its active compound curcumin — may boost mood and reduce symptoms of depression.
Turmeric and cinnamon — the ingredients in golden milk — all have properties that may benefit heart function and protect against heart disease.
The cinnamon present in golden milk, may lower blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity.
It is good for the brain too. The ginger present in this milk helps in brain function.

vegan/dairy-free golden milk
Use coconut milk or my homemade almond milk or cashew milk for a creamy, soothing, and delicious drink.
Ingredients
1 cup of Milk
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/8 tsp cinnamon powder
2 to 3 black pepper crushed
Method
- Place a saucepan on a medium flame, pour a glass of milk.
- Put 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder, cinnamon powder, and crushed black pepper.
- Boil the milk at least for 5 minutes.
- Serve them when it is lukewarm.
- Use organic turmeric powder as much as possible.
- Avoid adding sugar, if you really want to drink sweet milk you can add honey, jaggery or maple syrup or other healthy sugar alternatives
- If you wish you can add freshly grated ginger also.
- If you are vegan you can substitute the animal-based milk with any other plant-based milk like almond, coconut, or cashew milk.
